Initially established in 1938, the then New York Referees Association was formed. In 1970 the NYRA was officially incorporated in the state of New York. In November 2020, the name of the association was officially changed to more accurately reflect the association’s purpose. The association celebrated its 85th anniversary in 2023.

The New York Soccer Referees Association has had, and still has to this day, referees of all levels from beginners to FIFA panel Referees & Assistant Referees from both from within the United States and abroad, and everything in between.
